Hospital officials announced today People’s United Bank has once again stepped up in support of the greater Brattleboro community with a $75,000 pledge to Brattleboro Memorial Hospital’s “The Doorway to Exceptional Care” capital campaign.
“We are proud to support Brattleboro Memorial Hospital’s capital campaign for the renovation and expansion of the Emergency Department. The improved facility is vital to our community and to People’s United Bank’s 160 employees working in Brattleboro,” says Arne Hammarlund, Community Services Manager.
BMH publically launched a capital campaign to raise $3.5 million in late September for the renovation and expansion of the Emergency Department. Built in 1982, the original facility was designed to accommodate 6,000 visits per year. Last year alone, more than 14,000 patients accessed care through the Emergency Department.
“Nearly three out of every four patients admitted to hospital first come through the Emergency Department,” says BMH President and CEO Steven R. Gordon. “Improving the speed, efficiency and privacy of our Emergency Department is essential if we are to maintain a high standard of care for everyone who walks through our doors. This gift from People’s United Bank gets us one step closer.”
Ellen Smith, BMH’s Executive Director of Development and Community Relations, said more than $3 million has been committed thus far to the campaign. “It is so heartwarming, the generosity of this community; medical staff, employees, individuals and businesses, see the need for this project and have dug deep into their pockets in support of this campaign.”
